Who should be certified?
There should be a CPO graduate at every pool facility. Those individuals who are ultimately responsible for safety of a pool (owners/managers) should be certified as well as the operators. This insures everyone has a comprehensive understanding of statutes, administrative codes, state regulations and commonly accepted practices. The State of Michigan Public Swimming Pool Rules state, “R325.2197, Rule 97. (1) A swimming pool owner shall ensure that a qualified person who is responsible for testing the water and for operating the water treatment equipment of a swimming pool is readily available when the pool is open for use.” This expectation is certainly fulfilled with the presence of a Certified Pool Operator®. The CPO Certification is valid for 5 years.
